The technical regulations of the Eurasian economic Union (EEU), admitting a lower percentage of malt in beer compared to Russian requirements, does not degrade the quality of the drink — the document only gives the terms and definitions in line with market realities, said RIA Novosti in the Union of Russian brewers (SRP).

The EEC Board in November approved the draft of technical regulations on safety of alcohol products. According to the project, in the production of beer may be allowed a partial replacement of malt by grain or its products, if their total weight does not exceed 50% of the weight of the replaceable malt, and the weight of sugar-containing products is not more than 5% of the mass of malt, grain and grain products.

Thus, according to the law on regulation of production and turnover of alcohol in beer production allowed the partial replacement of malt by grain and products of its processing or sugar-containing products if their total weight does not exceed 20% (weight of sugar-containing products — 2%) by weight of the replaceable malt.

«Talk about the fact that the entry into force of the technical regulations will worsen the quality of domestic beer — are unfounded. Technical regulations changes requirements for the quality of beer, the technical regulations of aligning terms and definitions with the current realities of the beer market and opens new opportunities for the development of competition in the beer market, the creation of new varieties and development of new tastes,» said the Union, noting that the ability to vary the amount of malt the brewers have always been.

«It is therefore incorrect to assert that the provision of the technical regulations gives the brewers the opportunity to save on beer production,» — said in the PSA. The project of technical regulations — the result of seven years of work, which was conducted by the government agencies, experts and brewers of the EEU. «The Union of Russian brewers, supported the result of this work,» the organization said.

An industry source in conversation with RIA Novosti reminded that the law on the regulation of alcohol to the adoption of the amendments in 2011, did not contain a separation of beer actually beer and beer. «After making it into the law amendments a number of popular among Russian consumers of brands was considered beer drinks, although the formulation of their production has not changed. The adoption of technical regulations will allow such beverages again to be called «beer,» — said the Agency interlocutor.
