The proposal to increase the minimum price for brandy is right, it will allow people to stop drinking adulterated products, says the Commissioner for the rights of entrepreneurs under the President of the Russian Federation Boris Titov.

Union of cognac producers proposed to increase the minimum retail price of cognac by 30% from 371 ruble to 493 rubles per bottle of 0.5 liter, was previously reported by the RBC. The relevant calculations Union sent to the Ministry of Finance and the office of the head of the government.

«I think it’s the right decision. As of now, unfortunately, French wines and brandies are often forged in the Russian market, not to mention the fact that we have a lot of products where on the label says «Cognac», and in fact does not meet the technical requirements. Normal brandy — … aged at least three years in a barrel — may not be worth nominally less than 500 rubles,» — said Titov on the sidelines of the fourth Russian-Chinese business forum of small and medium-sized businesses.

Titov believes that good products the price does not rise.

In his opinion, people «will stop drinking counterfeit, because the counterfeit will not be able to sell at this bargain prices and under false labels».
