China has completed the world’s first year-round Arctic tanker for transportation of gas condensate, which received the name «Boris Sokolov» and will be transferred to Greece, according to the newspaper China Daily.

Naming ceremony for the tanker took place at the shipyard in Guangzhou on Tuesday, and soon he will be transferred to the Greek owner.

According to open sources, the customer of the tanker is the Greek company Dynacom. The vessel will be operated on the project «Yamal LNG».

Tanker ice class Arc7 can operate at a temperature below 50 degrees Celsius, making it unique in the world. The developers of the ship emphasize that before such tankers could transport gas condensate in the Arctic only in summer, while this may work in the winter.

«Boris Sokolov» can cut through ice with thickness up to 1.8 meters and maintain a ground speed of 2 knots. The length of the tanker is 214 meters, width – 24 m, operating speed of the tanker – 13 knots.
