Karelian authorities are counting on the opening of the special economic zone (SEZ) in the village of värtsilä, on the border with Finland in 2020, not in 2019, as previously assumed, said at a briefing Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Dmitry Rodionov.

«Today we are working, say, for the conduct of the Geology of the land on which will be this special economic zone. The area selected. We want to make sure that this site contains all the necessary primers, allowing to put it a serious enterprise,» — said Rodionov.

«If to speak about terms, we plan to send to the end of 2019 (including all geological surveys and agreements) apply to the government through the Ministry of economic development on the establishment of this zone. And planned that in 2020, our demand will be considered, and we can have a special area to receive,» he added.

According to the Minister of economic development of Karelia Pavel Burenkova, the government of Karelia has concluded the agreement with «anchor resident» SEZ – LLC «Karlis-Vyartsilya». In addition, in Joensuu (Finland) hosted a meeting of representatives of the government of the Republic from 30 Finnish companies, where entrepreneurs can get acquainted with the working conditions in the SEZ.

In the spring of 2018 Rodionov said that the request to create a special economic zone in Karelia it is planned to direct to Moscow in August, and the area to open in 2019. In the special economic zone of the Republic of Karelia, according to officials, will be created preferential tax and customs regimes.

In June 2018, the head of Karelia Arthur Parfenchikov at the meeting with President of Finland Sauli Niinistö also spoke about improving the infrastructure at the Russian-Finnish border, and the creation of a special economic zone on the territory of the village of värtsilä.
