New «one Church» of Ukraine, probably, will be created on the model of the Cretan, says the Greek Church news Agency Romfea.gr.

Media published a one page project Charter «Church of Ukraine», which was approved by the Synod of the Constantinople Patriarchate at the meeting of 27-29 November.

The Church of Crete is semi-Autonomous, it is subject to the Patriarch of Constantinople, its head bears the title of Archbishop.

The project Charter

The head of the new Church is not the Patriarch, and Metropolitan. He will form part of the Synod of the Ukrainian diocesan bishops, «canonically elected and ordained», the Agency said.

«The Ukrainian Church» can receive the chrism only from Istanbul, the newspaper writes. The chrism used in the sacrament of confirmation. The Constantinople Patriarchate considers chrism as its exclusive right. In the ROC do not agree, they think that there is such a right in any independent Church.

It is also noted that «the Ukrainian Church» will not be able to canonize saints, she will have to file a petition in the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which will give final approval.

Moreover, the activities of the Church will be guided by sacred Scripture, the Holy canons and the Patriarchal and Synodal Tomos granting autocephaly to her.

«Members of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox churches are all Orthodox Christians of the country, regardless of nationality», — specified in the project.

The media also reports that Petro Poroshenko announced his intention to visit Istanbul with the newly elected head of the «new national Church,» and to meet with Patriarch Bartholomew.

The reaction of the UOC and the dispute about autocephaly

The publication has already commented in the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

«It is very strange that the Church itself has not adopted its own Charter <…>. All the churches that previously received autocephaly, have made their statutes», — quotes Agency the words of the Deputy Chairman of the Department for external Church relations Archpriest Mykolai Danylevych.

In mid-October, the Ecumenical Patriarchate announced that it begins the granting of autocephaly of the non-canonical Church in Ukraine. In particular, he recalled the act of 1686 on the transfer of the Kiev diocese in the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate, and abolished the anathema imposed by the Russian Orthodox Church at the head of the self-proclaimed «Kiev Patriarchate» Filaret and the leader of the non-canonical Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Macarius.

In the ROC these solutions are called split and severed Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the canonical territory. Similar decision was taken by the Synod of bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad.
