The EU will create a network of independent proversion facts to fight the misinformation

The European Commission with the aim of combating the misinformation will promote the establishment in member countries of the EU network of independent proversion facts, said the European Commissioner for the digital economy Maria Gabriel.

The Executive Board of the EU on Wednesday unveiled a plan to «counter misinformation» ahead of the elections to the European Parliament in may 2019. Run in EU polls show that Europeans trust level to the community and its institutions has decreased significantly. At the same time sharply increased the activity of political forces with a nationalist and anti-globalization positions.

«We will promote the creation of a European network of independent proversion facts. Their work is important in the fight against misinformation and allows you to test it based on real facts. It complies with the principles of media pluralism and freedom of expression,» said Gabriel told reporters.

In a recent issue of information warfare with the Russian media was often heard in the West. In 2016, the European Parliament adopted a resolution called «Strategic communication of the EU as a counter-propaganda of the third parties.» The paper argues that Russia allegedly provides financial support to opposition political parties and organizations in the countries-EU members. In Moscow called the document a degradation of the idea of democracy in European society and parliamentarism.
