The import share of EU energy from the U.S. is only 2%, according to a review of the European Commissioner Miguel arias Cañete.

«The U.S. share of the import currently accounts for only 2%» — are his words a press-service EK.

«Our annual bill for energy imports is 300 billion euros,» — noted he, adding that the EU is the world’s largest buyer of energy. While about 85% of this amount shall be paid in U.S. dollars.

The European Commission on Wednesday suggested the EU leaders at a summit in December to discuss the international role of the Euro. The EC also intends to consult on wider use of the Euro in transactions for oil and gas. In addition, the EC endorsed the recommendations to strengthen the role of the Euro in settlements in international energy trade.
